Virtual MOCA: Past, Present, & Future

Virtual

Look back and reflect on MOCA’s history, past exhibitions, initiatives, programs, and permanent collection, and see how all of these efforts relate to our present offerings and future initiatives. This series is led by MOCA's team of curators.

Today, MOCA curators are focusing on the future by sharing some recent acquisitions to MOCA’s permanent collection. The three works highlighted today—by Judith Bernstein, Liliana Porter, and Eleanor Antin—are all works on paper; they use highly traditional means of black-and-white photography and charcoal drawing. The modesty of means, though, belies the artists’ ambitious, intellectually expansive, and, in at least one case, uproarious approaches to art making. All three works were made by women, all date to the 1970s, and at the time MOCA acquired them, they were the first works by those artists to enter the collection.
