Los Angeles Filmforum at MOCA Presents Carrie Mae Weems: Coming Up For Air

Screening

Los Angeles Filmforum at MOCA is pleased to present an evening of video work by Carrie Mae Weems including her feature length Coming Up For Air, preceded by Afro-Chic. Bold and inquisitive, Weems’s videos extend her photographic explorations of language, memory, and perception by delving into various constructions of history in order to reveal their personal and cultural reverberations. Coming Up For Air marks Weems’s first major foray into video and weaves together a series of visually striking, dramatic vignettes depicting children preparing for a history lesson, the Kennedy assassination, quarreling sisters and the relationship between black men and white women in Antebellum New Orleans.
