Charles Bernstein

Lecture

Poet and scholar Charles Bernstein has been a preemin-ent voice in experimental poetry since the 1970s as one of the founders of L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E magazine. For this program, Bernstein speaks about the poetry of Carl Andre and his own notion of “poetry plastique.” Placing Andre in the context of such 20th-century poets as Robert Grenier, Aram Saroyan, Álvaro de Campos, Eugen Gomringer, Mary Ellen Solt, and Ian Hamilton Finlay, Bernstein teases out the relationship between poetry and the visual arts animating Andre’s multidisciplinary practice.

The program is generously supported by William and Ruth True – Gramma Poetry.
