Lecture

S. Løchlann Jain will present a lecture on the complex subject of cancer and its broad social implications on the occasion of Patrick Staff: Weed Killer. Jain’s 2016 J. I. Staley Prize–winning book, Malignant: How Cancer Becomes Us, was an essential part of Staff’s research. Part memoir, part anthropological study, the book discusses cancer as a cultural phenomenon to expose the intricacies of its effects. Jain is an associate professor at Stanford University, where she teaches medical and legal anthropology.
