40 for LA: Sylvia Lavin on Arata Isozaki

Lecture

As MOCA celebrates its 40th anniversary, 40 for LA offers audiences a behind-the-scenes glimpse into MOCA’s origins. The multimedia exhibition features archival materials from the vault, including rare photographs, ephemera, and limited-edition objects, and a special homage to all of the artists to whom the museum is indebted. It highlights some of the key elements that define MOCA, such as the iconic Grand Avenue building designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki in 1986. Renowned architect and scholar Sylvia Lavin has continuously explored the ways in which contemporary art and architecture meet through writing and exhibition making. In this program, she offers special insight into MOCA’s place in the city at large, forty years after its debut.

Lead underwriting for MOCA’s 40th anniversary exhibitions and programs is provided by Sean and Alexandra Parker.

Priority tickets are available to MOCA members at any time on the day of the program. Thirty minutes before the program begins tickets will be released to non-members. One ticket per person on a first come, first served basis. Early arrival is recommended.
