MOCA Fund for Exhibitions

The MOCA Fund for Exhibitions directly contributes funds to MOCA’s innovative exhibitions program, which enables our audiences to engage with the art of our time. Exhibitions draw new audiences to the museum, advance art historical scholarship, and contribute to local, national, and international dialogues. Recognizing this, the effort to garner support for exhibitions is among the top strategic priorities of the museum.

With a diversity of works from the celebrated permanent collection, on loan from other institutions and private collections from around the world, MOCA’s curatorial experts thoughtfully chose the exhibitions brought to the museum.

Gifts to the MOCA Fund for Exhibitions support exhibitions at our two downtown Los Angeles locations at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in the Little Tokyo neighborhood and MOCA Grand Avenue.

Exhibitions at MOCA are supported by the MOCA Fund for Exhibitions with lead funding provided by The Goodman Family Foundation. Major funding is provided by Tatiana Botton, Kathi and Gary Cypres, Alfred E. Mann Charities, and Alicia Miñana and Robert Lovelace. MOCA Fund for Education

Gifts to the MOCA Fund for Education directly support a dynamic ecosystem of award-winning programs, including:

  • Contemporary Art Start (CAS): MOCA’s flagship classroom partnership for grades 3–12,130 teachers serving 5,000 students across Los Angeles County.
  • MOCA Teens: year-long, paid internships that provide creative experiences and museum training for a select cohort of high school juniors and seniors.
  • Family Programs: engaging more than 50,000 local families each year through creative spaces designed for kids, bilingual gallery and activity guides, and Sunday Studio events.
  • Talking Tours: educator-led, conversation-based exhibition tours that invite questions, shared looking, and deeper engagement with the art on view.

Individuals and corporations are invited to support the MOCA Fund for Education with a gift of any size in support of MOCA’s education programs here. Public donor recognition begins at gifts of $5,000.

MOCA’s education programs are made possible by generous endowment support from the W. M. Keck Foundation and The Hearst Foundations.

MOCA Fund for Performance

A central component of MOCA’s curatorial program is performance, offering unique museum experiences to audiences for free or for a minimal ticket price. Through exhibitions; distinctive, site-specific, inter- and transdisciplinary practices; and public events, performance at MOCA provides space for works that celebrate live art as an integral part of contemporary expression.

The museum’s performance program is anchored by Wonmi’s WAREHOUSE Programs. Founded in 2019 by Wonmi & Kihong Kwon and Family, WAREHOUSE is dedicated to showcasing live art at the intersection of artistic forms, experimentation, and public engagement in an iconic industrial building at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. The series presents and premieres newly commissioned works, music festivals, and residencies that foreground sensorial experience centered on the body, movement, and sound.

Performances at MOCA are supported by the MOCA Fund for Performance with generous funding provided by Betsy Greenberg and Lenore Greenberg.
