Patron & Affiliate Groups

Inaugurated in 2024, the MOCA Global Council is a premier support group of international and American collectors and leading art patrons who possess a worldview of contemporary art and help advocate for MOCA’s programs and its global impact and ambition.

Members have unparalleled access to emerging and established artists, as well as renowned collections and international events and programs, dynamically engaging the newest developments in art and culture in Los Angeles and beyond.

The MOCA Global Council meets twice a year, coinciding with major international biennials, art festivals, and art fairs. Council members are essential supporters of MOCA’s interdisciplinary programs including signature global initiatives, MOCA Focus projects, film programs, performances and exhibitions with international artists.

The MOCA Environmental Council, the first of its kind at a major art museum in the United States, supports environmental sustainability and climate storytelling in alignment with the museum’s mission.

Since its founding in 2020, the Council has advanced institution-wide decarbonization projects, ambitious exhibitions, and intergenerational public programming. MOCA shares the Council’s work as a platform for public dialogue and engagement on these pressing issues.

MOCA has three acquisition committees:

Acquisition and Collection Committee
Emerging Art Fund
Drawings and Photography Committee

These committees are designed for patrons who wish to play an active role in shaping the museum's world-renowned permanent collection, which comprises nearly 8,000 works created after 1940 across a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, architecture, and design. Through their participation, members help fund new acquisitions, engage directly with the director and curators, and gain insight into artists and works under consideration for exhibition and inclusion in the collection. All committee members also support MOCA through Leadership Circle membership.

Established in 1982, the Acquisition and Collection Committee serves as the museum's premier advisory group for collection development. Working in partnership with MOCA's director and curatorial team, members review potential acquisitions and contribute to the ongoing evolution of one of the nation's most significant contemporary art holdings. Their support helps ensure that MOCA continues to preserve, strengthen, and expand its collection for future generations.

Leadership Circle is MOCA’s annual giving group for our most engaged donors. Donors’ contributions generously support all areas of the museum’s endeavors, from groundbreaking contemporary art exhibitions to our award-winning education initiatives and programs. Leadership Circle donors enjoy special access to the museum year-round as well as other exclusive privileges, including exhibition previews, curator-led walkthroughs, private receptions to MOCA events, and much more.

The MOCA Projects Council is a dynamic group of women collectors and arts patrons dedicated to advancing MOCA’s mission through fundraising in support of the museum’s education and exhibition programs. The Council raises vital funds through two signature initiatives: the biannual Women in the Arts Luncheon, which honors visionary women artists and philanthropists connected to MOCA’s history, and the production and sale of a limited-edition artist multiple every other year.

In addition to their philanthropic efforts, Council members enjoy exclusive access to monthly programs across Los Angeles and an annual domestic trip, offering opportunities to engage deeply with contemporary art and artists.

New members are welcomed through a nomination process held each spring.
