Walt Disney Concert Hall: A Celebration of Music and Architecture

Oct 27, 1996 – Apr 27, 1997
When
October 27, 1996 – April 27, 1997

Installed in a specially designed pavilion on the MOCA Grand Avenue Sculpture Plaza, Walt Disney Concert Hall: A Celebration of Music and Architecture presented large-scale models, photos, material swatches, and other documentation related to architect Frank Gehry’s new concert venue design. Constructed as the new home for the Los Angeles Philharmonic at The Music Center of Los Angeles County, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is located a block away from MOCA Grand Avenue and remains one of Gehry’s most celebrated projects. At the time of the exhibition, Gehry’s design had been finalized and approved, but construction on the main building had not yet begun.

Outside the main gallery of the exhibition, Gehry presented a 1:10 scale model of the building’s planned interior. Visitors could enter the maquette, originally used to test acoustics, one at a time.
