The first in a series of long-term permanent collection exhibitions at MOCA Grand Avenue, Timepieces: Highlights from the Permanent Collection, 1945-1979 included paintings, sculpture, photography, and works on paper by artists such as Diane Arbus, Robert Frank, Jasper Johns, Franz Kline, Lee Krasner, Roy Lichtenstein, Agnes Martin, Claes Oldenburg, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Rothko, and Andy Warhol. The exhibition emphasized art on the earlier side of MOCA’s collection and charted a rough lineage of American art from the New York School, to Neo-Dada, through Pop and Minimalism.Timepieces was programmed to provide historical context for concurrent temporary exhibitions at the museum.
