The Temporary Contemporary
This exhibition featured the eighty selections of Abstract Expressionism and Pop art from the late 1940s to the early 1960s that constitute the foundation of the museum's permanent collection, including works by Jean Fautrier, Franz Kline, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Rothko, George Segal, and Antoni Tàpies. Collected by Count Giuseppe and Mrs. Giovanni Panza di Biumo between 1956 and 1963, these works were purchased by MOCA in January 1984, establishing the museum's collecting strategy of focusing on individual artists in depth.
The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue.
