Suprasensorial: Experiments in Light, Color and Space presents five major installations by pioneering Latin American artists working with light, color, and space to redefine the traditional relationship between artwork and viewer. The exhibition aims to expand the dialogue around light and space art beyond the California tradition of the late 1960s and 1970s to include related Latin American impulses expressed more than a decade earlier. The four artists and one artist team featured in Suprasensorial come from Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela and are represented by works made between 1951 and 1973. These include Lucio Fontana’s Struttura al neon per la IX Triennale di Milano (Neon Structure for the Ninth Milan Triennial, 1951); Julio Le Parc's Lumière en movement – Installation (Moving Light – Installation, 1962); Carlos Cruz Diez’s Chromosaturation (1965); Jesús Rafael Soto’s Penétrable BBL bleu (BBL blue penetrable, 1969); and Hélio Oiticica and Neville D’Almeida’s Cosmococa-Programa in Progress, CC4 Nocagions (1973).
