This major retrospective of Roy Lichtenstein’s work featured approximately ninety paintings and sculptures representing the key phases of this Pop artist’s career, the semi-abstract paintings of the 1950s; his early-1960s comic panels; his Brushstroke, Mirror, and Entablature series; the late-1960s Modern sculptures; the decades of appropriations of the modernist painting canon; his later Reflections and Interior paintings; and much more.
Roy Lichtenstein traveled from the Solomon R. Guggenheim, New York, to MOCA, then traveled to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal; Haus der Kunst, Munich; Deichtorhallen, Hamburg; Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels; and the Wexner Center for the Arts, Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.
The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue.
