Recent Acquisitions in the Permanent Collection

The exhibition highlighted works recently added to the to the museum's permanent collection, including Cigar (1991), Untitled (1992) and Prison Window (1992) by New York artist Robert Gober. Also included in the show was Double Lock (1991) by LA-based artist Fred Fehlau and a screen-print on canvas Salire (1986-87) by Gerhard Merz. Also on view for the first time was the recent gift of ten works from the artist Sam Francis. The largest single gift to MOCA from an artist in the museum's history, it comprises ten paintings created between 1951 and 1992, each representing major phases of Francis's development; they include Grey (1951), Untitled Sketch (1956–57), Untitled (1960), Mantis (1961-62), Blue and Red Balls (1962), Untitled (1964), Untitled (1967), Dark Beams (1978), Blue Jade (1982), and Untitled (1992).
