The Temporary Contemporary & others
Coinciding with the 1984 LA Summer Olympics Arts Festival, In Context: Mobile Image, Electronic Café installed networked computer terminals with visual communication technologies at MOCA’s Temporary Contemporary and four local LA eateries. The eateries were picked from what were then four ethnically distinct LA neighborhoods: The Gumbo House in the predominantly Black community of South Central; Ana Maria Restaurant in the Latinx enclave of East LA; The 8th Street Restaurant in Koreatown; and Gunter’s Cafe in Venice Beach. Mobile Image was the moniker for artists Kit Galloway and Sherrie Rabinowitz.
In Context (1984–1985) was a series of exhibitions that commissioned artists to develop critical spatial interventions in creative or unusual sites.
