The Temporary Contemporary
In Context: Michael Heizer comprised one major installation artwork and three stand-alone photographs by land artist Michael Heizer. Heizer constructed the exhibition’s primary piece, 45°, 90°, 180°/Geometric Extraction, inside The Temporary Contemporary, effectively using its exhibiting galleries as his own studio. The work, made of corrugated paper and printed with black, magnified rock grain, consisted of a hollow, wedge-like form against a rear wall with seventeen geometric sections laid out in front of it. In accordance with the latter part of the work’s title, these sections appear to have been extracted from the hollow, starting form. Viewers were able to walk through the passageways formed by these massive geometric shapes.
The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue.
In Context (1984–1985) was a series of exhibitions that commissioned artists to develop critical spatial interventions in creative or unusual sites.

The Temporary Contemporary was the original name of The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.
