The first major US retrospective of the New York-based artist’s work, Lawrence Weiner: AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE provides a comprehensive examination of Weiner’s remarkable and cohesive oeuvre, assembling key selections and series from throughout his forty-year career. Weiner explores language as an artistic medium and examines its relationship to site and place, as in his site-specific museum murals and contingent language propositions, realizable in multiple forms. The exhibition includes the full breadth of Wiener’s production with works on paper, films, videos, books, posters, public commissions, multiples, and audio works, including his landmark 1968 book STATEMENTS, his early work Cratering Piece (1961), and the titular work of the show, in huge yellow letters outlined in red.
The exhibition will travel to K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf, Germany.
