James Welling: Photographs 1974–1999

This midcareer survey examines the work of LA-based artist James Welling and features over one hundred photographs from ten series, beginning with the videotape Ashes (1974) and include his Untitled (1980–81), Light Sources (1992–98), Usines de dentelle (1993), Polaroid Photographs (1975–76), Los Angeles Architecture (1976–78), Railroad Photographs (1987–92), and Diary of Elizabeth and James Dixon (1840–41)/Connecticut Landscapes (1977–86). The latest series in the exhibition, New Abstractions (1998–99), comprises photograms of structural silhouettes.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue.

James Welling: Photographs 1974–1999 was curated by Sarah J. Rogers for the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, and traveled to MOCA Grand Avenue and the Baltimore Museum of Art.
