This mid-career retrospective featured around twenty-five works loosely based on the theme of introjection, a psychoanalytic term referring to the internalization of another’s qualities as one’s own.
The retrospective featured a survey of Oursler’s single-channel videos from 1976 to 1999, including The Loner (1980), EVOL (1984), and Joy Ride (1988), made with Constance De Jong.
Introjection: Tony Oursler mid-career survey, 1976-1999 represented the first comprehensive overview in the US of Oursler’s career and traveled from the Williams College Museum of Art to the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, MOCA, and the Des Moines Art Center.
