The Temporary Contemporary

The first of a two-part exhibition, In Context: Betye Saar’s “Selected Assemblages” displayed forty-eight works by Betye Saar at an abandoned brick gas station on the grounds of The Temporary Contemporary.

The second part of the exhibition, Oasis, transformed the entire brick shed into one room-sized installation, and showed from October 20, 1984, to January 6, 1985.

In Context (1984–1985) was a series of exhibitions that commissioned artists to develop critical spatial interventions in creative or unusual sites.

The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue.

In Context: Betye Saar's "Selected Assemblages" was organized by Julia Brown, Curator, with Assistant Curator, Kerry Brougher, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.

The Temporary Contemporary was the original name of The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.
