Hand-Painted Pop: American Art in Transition, 1955-62 included one hundred and sixty-five paintings, drawings, and collages by twenty-one artists working in New York and California during the eight-year span of the show. Built around MOCA’s permanent collection, the exhibition included works by Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, and Edward Ruscha.
Hand-Painted Pop: American Art in Transition, 1955-62 traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue co-published by MOCA and Rizzoli.
