The first major survey exhibition of this Mexican artist’s work featured approximately one hundred artworks, including sculpture, photography, video, and works on paper, produced between 1990 and 2000. Gabriel Orozco highlighted the artist’s interest in the boundary between “art” and “life.” His Ping Pond Table (1998), comprises two intersecting ping pong tables with a lily pond at its center; visitors are encouraged to play. Other major works included Crazy Tourist (1991), La DS (1993), Yogurt Caps (1994/2000), the Atomists series (1996), and Photogravity (1999).
For this exhibition, Orozco deliberately chose not to make anything new, instead combining past works in new, evocative configurations. Most of the show’s works were thus installed in a single, large gallery at MOCA Grand Avenue.
The exhibition travels to the Museo Internacional Rufino Tamayo, Mexico City, and the Museo de Arte Contemporàneo de Monterrey.
