This Scottish artist works in a variety of media, including video installation, text, photography, sound, environmental interventions, and wall painting. This ten-year survey constituted the artist’s first major exhibition in the US and aimed to provide a comprehensive introduction to his multifaceted work.
Gordon first achieved widespread recognition with 24 Hour Psycho (1993), an appropriation of the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock thriller, stretched to play out a single time over the course of one day. through the looking glass (1999) appropriates Robert de Niro monologuing and practicing his draw in front of a mirror for Taxi Driver (1976). Also included are Selfportrait as Kurt Cobain, as Andy Warhol, as Myra Hindley, as Marilyn Monroe (1996), and Tattoo (for Reflection) (1997), A Divided Self I and II (1996) and Between Darkness and Light (After William Blake) (1997).
