Drawn from over one thousand works from the permanent collection and selected loans, this was the first major exhibition to examine MOCA's holdings in depth. The exhibition featured nearly one hundred and fifty paintings, photographs, works on paper, sculptures, and installations from 1930 to the present by artists including Vito Acconci, Richard Artshwager, Larry Bell, Jonathan Borofsky, Tony Brauntuch, Chris Burden, Vija Celmins, Jospeh Cornell, Tim Ebner, Dan Flavin, Jean Fautrier, Alberto Giacometti, Jill Giegerich, Arshile Gorky, George Grosz, David Ireland, Mike Kelley, Anselm Kiefer, Lee Krasner, Louise Lawler, Sherrie Levine, Roy Lichtenstein, Brice Marden, Agnes Martin, Piet Mondrian, Matt Mullican, Louise Nevelson, Claes Oldenberg, Lari Pittman, Jackson Pollock, Stephen Prina, Richard Prince, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Susan Rothenberg, Mark Rothko, Allen Ruppersberg, Julian Schnabel, Cindy Sherman, Alexis Smith, and Andy Warhol.
