This exhibition surveys recent acquisitions to MOCA’s world-renowned permanent collection, with a particular focus on donations and purchases made in the last five years. Collecting History: Highlighting Recent Acquisitions demonstrates the remarkable growth of the museum’s holdings in recent years, showcasing both works acquired from major exhibitions—including A Minimal Future? Art as Object 1958–1968 (2004), Poetics of the Handmade (2007), WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution (2007), and various MOCA Focus series shows—alongside pieces that had never been exhibited at MOCA before.

Artists include John Altoon, Stanley Brouwn, Tony Conrad, Hanne Darboven, VALIE EXPORT, Öyvind Fahlström, Hans Haacke, Rachel Harrison, Mike Kelley, Suzanne Lacy, Lisa Lapinski, Gary Simmons, Cosima von Bonin, Ai Weiwei, William Wegman, and Lawrence Weiner, and many others. On view were significant donations from Michael Asher, Blake Byrne, Mandy and Cliff Einstein, Alan Hergott and Curt Shepard, Mike Kelley, Alan Power, and The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Fifty States, and more.

Collecting History is organized by Ann Goldstein and Bennett Simpson, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
