This exhibition of MOCA permanent collection works was curated by research assistant Michael Darling and highlighted the strong influence of consumer culture on late 20th century art. The show surveyed this trend across a wide variety of artworks in the collection, including photography, painting, sculpture, and installation. Major works in the exhibition included photos from Robert Frank’s The Americans (1955–56); “products” from Claes Oldenburg’s The Store (1961); Jeff Koons’s New Hoover Celebrity III (1980); multiple Richard Prince photographs; and Adam Rolston’s Brillo Boxes with Trojans (1991), among others.
