The first major retrospective of the architect's work featured thirty-two scale models, two hundred-seventy drawings and sketches, and a full-scale reconstruction of a contemporary tea house. In addition, Matsushita Electrical Industrial Company premiered its High Definition Television (HDTV) Filing System within three areas that screened selections from two documentary films by Michael Blackwood, Isozaki's film MA: Space/Time in the Garden of Ryoan-Ji, as well as over five hundred views of twenty-four projects.
After opening at MOCA, the exhibition traveled to Tokyo Station Gallery, September 21 – November 24, 1991; Art Tower Mito, December 7, 1991 – February 2, 1992; Museum of Modern Art, Gunma, February 29 – March 22, 1992; The Daimaru Museum Umeda, Osaka, May 27 – June 8, 1992; Kitakyushu City Museum of Art, June 27 – July 26, 1992); and the Brooklyn Museum, December 1, 1993 – February 27, 1994.
