The Temporary Contemporary
Animate Objects: The Puppetry of Bruce D. Schwartz displayed twelve original puppets by the young artist and puppeteer Bruce D. Schwartz. Born in 1957, Schwartz performed at his first national festival at the age of twenty-one, and by 1983, he had already gained international recognition for his shows The Rat of Huge Proportions (1975), Victorian and Renaissance Puppetry (1977), Three Cradles (1978), and more.
The puppets were “animated” several times in special performances of Beyond the Comfort of Heaven: A Dance of Balance, a ten-minute puppet dance created by Schwartz for the exhibition.

The Temporary Contemporary was the original name of The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.
