Felix Gonzalez-Torres

This New York-based artist produced provocative, minimal works utilizing a variety of media including works on paper, sculpture, photography and billboards. The first major museum show of his work; jointly organized by MOCA; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; and The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago. It consisted of three distinct exhibitions, each specifically conceived for the respective venues by the artist, joined by a single publication. MOCA's presentation of the installation was curated by Ann Goldstein as part of the museum's Focus Series and titled Traveling. The exhibition included installations, stack pieces, and a billboard displayed in the museum as well as twenty other locations throughout Los Angeles. The show traveled to the Hirshhorn Museum, Jun. 16-Sept. 11-1994 and The Renaissance Society, Sept. 25-Nov. 6, 1994, and was installed and titled differently each time.
