Stan VanDerBeek embraced nearly every possibility for
creating and combining pictures, from collage film and cut-out animation to
early explorations with large-scale film installation. Trained at Black
Mountain College, where he was influenced by John Cage, Merce Cunningham,
Buckminster Fuller, and others, VanDerBeek joyfully combined forms—photography,
film, music, video, dance— to arrive at unique syntheses and interdisciplinary
projects. This program is presented by Los Angeles Filmforum at MOCA in
connection with the current permenant collection exhibition.
