MOCA Store Presents Daniel Clowes’s Monica Conversation and Book Signing

The MOCA Store is pleased to host an evening celebrating the release of Daniel Clowes’s graphic novelMonica, published by Fantagraphics. One of the most celebrated publications of 2023, and five years in the making,Monicarepresents the pinnacle achievement of one of the most influential voices in the medium.Join the MOCA Store for an engaging conversation with Clowes and writer Kristine McKenna, offering a rare glimpse into his creative process. Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the author in person during a book signing session, complete with an exclusive limited-edition bookplate.



Monica is a multilayered masterpiece that pays homage to various comic genres, including war, romance, horror, crime, and the supernatural. According to author Junot Diaz, the captivating journey through the life and stories of its enigmatic title character confirms Clowes’s “true superpower... a scabrously radiant honesty that ha[s] no equal in comics or ‘literature.’”



Daniel Clowes
is a graphic novelist who has received numerous awards, including the Harvey, Eisner, Ignatz, and PEN America Literary Awards. His works have been translated into over twenty languages and published worldwide. In addition to his comics, Clowes wrote the screenplay for the filmGhost World, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. Retrospectives of his work have been presented at various institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Oakland Museum of California, and the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio.Kristine McKennais a Los Angeles based writer and curator who’s published several books on various aspects of the counterculture of the 20th century. She is presently co-organizing the David Lynch Archive and is working on a novel.
