Members at the MOCA Associate level and above are invited for an off-site talk with artist Judith F. Baca onThe Great Wall of Los Angeles.
Conceived by Baca as the first project for the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC),The Great Wall of Los Angelesis a half-mile long mural depicting the history of California through images of significant figures and historic events underscoring diverse and traditionally marginalized communities. Completed between 1974 and 1984 by hundreds of participants, the mural highlights themes such as immigration, exploitation of people and land, women's rights, class distinctions, racism and racial equality, and the struggle for gay and lesbian rights.
One of the city's cultural landmarks, Baca will share the history and future plans forThe Great Wall of Los Angeles. The event coincides with the exhibitionJudith F. Baca: World Wallon view at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA from September 10, 2022 – February 19, 2023.
