Stockholder created this massive installation for a solo exhibition at Kunsthallen Brandts in Odense, Denmark. Toying with typical architectural parameters, a locker and shelving unit are suspended from the ceiling and punctuated by a web of nylon ropes; they float above a fortress of lights and space heaters stacked in rows above a platform. This austere, almost clinical, presentation recalls institutional spaces like schools and medical labs, but Stockholder countervails the antiseptic atmosphere with a cluster of nested coffee tables painted in bright colors and overlaid with fur and vintage lamps. Juxtaposing icy-cool fluorescent light with perceptible warmth, White Light Laid Frozen is at once institutional and domestic or monumental and quotidian; it suggests a massive network of paradoxes, perhaps inspired in part by the Scandinavian environment where it was created.
