Pleasure More, 1998-1999

​Pleasure Moreis a photograph by Louise Lawler of another artist’s sculpture—Andy Warhol’sSilver Clouds, a roomful of helium-filled “pillows” made of metalized plastic. Lawler took this picture in 1997, when Warhol’s work was re-created for an exhibition at a commercial art gallery in New York. Part of whatPleasure Morecaptures is the way an artwork circulates in the world, as a copy rather than as an original, and as an object to be sold for financial profit. Photography is an apt choice of medium—because of its inherent reproducibility, a photograph obscures the distinction between original and copy. The blur across the silver balloons underscores the work’s movement in the gallery space, a metaphor for the circulation of objects in the art world.
