FedEx® Large Kraft Box ©2005 FEDEX 330508 … consists of shatterproof glass cut to the size of a Federal Express (FedEx) standard shipping box. Part of the FedEx series by Beshty, the changing form and title of the work are defined by parameters laid out by the artist. The glass box, which was initially unbroken but cracked as a result of shipping, must be shipped to new locations in the same FedEx cardboard box in which it was originally dispatched. The FedEx airway bill, custom forms, and barcodes are part of the work and should not be removed. As the title reveals the trajectory of the piece—listing cities shipped between, tracking numbers, and travel dates—the artist requires the addition of subsequent shipment information to the title. In addition, cracks will continue to form as the work is loaned out to other institutions and shipped to new venues. As a result of these factors, the form and title of the work transform each time it is displayed in a different city.
