Artists on Artists: Andrea Fraser

Lecture

Andrea Fraser’s work, writes Pierre Bourdieu, is able to “trigger a social mechanism, a sort of machine infernale whose operation causes the hidden truth of social reality to reveal itself.” Fraser discusses William Pope.L: Trinket as part of a lecture that inaugurates Artists on Artists, a new series that builds upon MOCA’s tradition of examining works and exhibitions through the voice of the artist.

Fraser’s work has been exhibited at the Berkeley Art Museum, Kunstverein Munich, the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Whitney Biennial, and Tate Modern. In 2013, a major retrospective of her work was organized by the Ludwig Museum, Cologne, in conjunction with her receipt of the Wolfgang-Hahn Prize. Based in Los Angeles, Fraser is Professor of New Genres in UCLA’s Art Department.
