SPOKEN WORD</strong>: <strong>Karla Kelsey<br />
</strong>Born and raised in Southern California, <strong>Karla Kelsey</strong> holds degrees from UCLA, the University of Iowa Writers&#8217; Workshop (MFA), and the University of Denver (PhD). Her book <em>Knowledge, Forms, the Aviary</em> (2005) was selected by Carolyn ForchÃ© to win the 2005 Sawtooth Poetry Prize and was published in 2006 by Ahsahta Press. She currently lives in Pennsylvania on the banks of the Susquehanna River.</p>
<p><strong>SPOKEN WORD</strong>: <strong>Gloria Alvarez<br />
</strong>Gloria Enedina Alvarez is a Chicana poet, community-based artist, literary translator and curator, mentor to generations of Latina artists, and creative writing teacher in Los Angeles. Her published works include books of poetry <em>Emerging En Un Mar De Olanes</em> and <em>La Excusa/The Excuse</em>. Her work is included in various anthologies. She has published, performed, and received awards in United States, Latin America, and Europe. Her collaborations with Peter Sellars, Esa Pekka Salonen, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and John Adams include plays and librettos produced in Los Angeles, New York, and Europe including <em>Los biombos</em>, <em>Cuento De Un Soldado</em>, and <em>El Nino</em>.<br />
