Rafael Lozano-Hemmer
Sitestepper, Relational Architecture 10
Launch date: June 2004
This project is inspired by the perverse commercial tendency to add a 'theme' to everything, from restaurants to amusement parks to government agendas. The idea is to establish uncanny branded environments that reorganize information and boring web aesthetics into quotidian spaces of presumed neutrality.

- Rafael Lozano-Hemmer

Rafael Lozano-Hemmer specializes in what he calls "relational architecture," transforming public spaces using interactive technologies that enable participants to become part of the artwork. The Mexican-born, Montreal-based artist has participated in numerous international exhibitions and has written extensively on architecture and electronic art.

Sitestepper, Relational Architecture 10 consists of a navigable virtual environment with a twist: when viewers type their choice of web address, the text and visual data from the selected web site transforms the environment.
