A Forest of Signs: Art in the Crisis of Representation
May 7-Aug. 13, 1989
-
A Forest of Signs: Art in the Crisis of Representation was co-curated by Mary Jane Jacob and Ann Goldstein. The show was the first museum-based overview of American art from the late 1970s to 1989 and featured thirty artists. The show included existing artwork as well as works created specifically for this event. Exhibition installations included radio spots, a mural on the Temporary Contemporary south wall, bronze inlays into the sidewalk around the Temporary Contemporary, multimedia installations, drawings, and prints. The show was originally scheduled to tour, but did not due to its size.
