Summer 1985: Nine Artists
Jun. 26-Sept. 29, 1985
-
Summer 1985: Nine Artists was curated by Julia Brown with the assistance of Jacqueline Crist and Connie Butler. Meant to represent the diversity of artists working in Los Angeles, it consisted of nine solo exhibitions held concurrently at the Temporary Contemporary. The exhibitions varied from single, large-scale commissions to in-depth surveys and featured the work of Jo Ann Callis, Suzanne Caporael, Guy de Cointet, Mary Corse, Steve Galloway, Jill Giegerich, Gronk, Willie Herrón and Bill Viola. The installation was designed by Los Angeles architect Tim Vreeland. Performances of works by Gronk and Cointet as well as screenings of video works by Viola accompanied the exhibition.
