THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 3–6pm
MOCA Grand Avenue
250 S. Grand Ave., Downtown L.A.
MOCA Staff will reinvent Scales (1971). Participants will place cement blocks in an interior stairwell at MOCA Grand Avenue to form new steps going up towards the roof and climb them. They will then carry the blocks to the next stairway to form new steps going down, and descend them. While this process will not be visible by museum visitors, they will hear it as it occurs. INFO 213/621-1745 or education@moca.org
Scales (1971) Scales was first realized at the California Institute of the Arts, where participants ascended and descended flights of stairs using cement blocks to form new steps along the way. The process continued in different stairwells within the same building with the placement of the blocks repeated.
