Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, Raimundas Malasauskas works internationally and writes on a wide range of topics. His curatorial practice consciously expands what it means to curate and interrogates how we all consume and participate in the production of culture. Co-presented with REDCAT, this lecture is part of MOCA’s new series focusing on the work and perspectives of contemporary curators.

CONVERSATION AND BOOK SIGNING: KIM GORDON

In conjunction with the publication of her highly anticipated memoir Girl in a Band, Kim Gordon will appear in conversation with MOCA Senior Curator Bennett Simpson. Gordon, who spent her youth in suburban California, is known not only as co-founder, bassist, and vocalist of the band Sonic Youth, but also as a fashion designer, actress, record producer, video director, and visual artist. Her book is a deeply personal and honest narrative that charts her course in the company of some of the most influential musicians, artists, and fashion designers of recent decades.

Cauleen Smith is an artist and filmmaker whose work reflects her interest in Afrofuturism and other radical possibilities of the imagination. The Way Out Is the Way Two (2014) is a feature-length constellation of short videos revolving around cosmic jazz composer Sun Ra’s time in Chicago, from 1945—1961.
